About

whoweuse was co-founded in early 2014 by three technology veterans who have successful track records in social, mobile and digital media. We have bolstered our team with key members who have world-class experience in consumer product development and design.

Team

John Garbarino, CEO and Co-founder

John leads the product vision of whoweuse along with his amazing partners Pete and Spencer. Prior to whoweuse, John was SVP of Business Development at ShoutEm, where he led all business development efforts for the mobile app platform. This included assembling a network of hundreds of local reseller agencies who built mobile apps for local businesses using ShoutEm.  In addition, he closed enterprise deals with major media & publishing companies and created partnerships with key tech platforms. Prior to ShoutEm, John was VP of Business of Development at KickApps, where he met Pete and helped build the company’s amazing roster of enterprise media clients. John has been involved with various tech startups since 1997. Needless to say, he is hungry to build a successful company of his own with his current partners. John has a B.S. in Politics from Wake Forest University.  He lives with his wife and two kids in Maplewood, New Jersey.

Pete Clark, CTO and Co-founder

Pete Clark is the technical leader of whoweuse. Pete developed and scaled the KickApps platform, a high traffic social media solution for major brands across the Internet including Disney, NBC Universal, The Weather Channel, and Scripps Networks. KickApps was acquired by KIT Digital in January 2011. Earlier in his career, Pete helped drive the rapid development of speech recognition applications by founding Quadfore Corporation and creating a telephony based speech application development and hosting suite, later acquired by Vocalocity, Inc.  Pete is a veteran of several other large scale consumer-oriented development projects, including CDNow, NetByTel, which he co-founded, and Infonautics. Pete holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Mary Washington, where he received C.S. Departmental Honors for VRML/Java research.

Spencer Ante, President and Co-founder

Spencer oversees marketing and finance at whoweuse and helps John run product. He was most recently a senior special writer and deputy bureau chief at The Wall Street Journal, where he oversaw the Journal’s coverage of wireless technology. At the Journal, Spencer wrote many major technology stories that landed on Page One, helped build award-winning Web apps such as the WSJ Wireless Savings Calculator, and was part of team that was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for its coverage of privacy in the digital age. Before that, he was an editor and writer at BusinessWeek, where he oversaw the annual IT100 issue, and launched the company’s eBiz supplement, first blogs and online video programs. Spencer has a passion for building new things and has worked at other startups, including TheStreet.com, Netscape and Wired. He is the author of Creative Capital, a biography chronicling the roots of America’s entrepreneurial economy that was reviewed in the New York Times and other top publications. Spencer is a LinkedIn Influencer and got his masters in journalism at U.C.-Berkeley. He lives in NJ with his wife and two children.

His work has been published in many national magazines and he has forged identities for top companies like Apple, Zynga, Yahoo! Hasbro, and Amplify.
